What to Use For Hair Shedding
If you've found this article, you probably know that hair shedding is different from typical hair loss. Shedding is hard to ignore. Hair gets every where - your clothes, your floor, in your food and your mouth. It clogs your vacuum, dryer lint drawer, and shower drain. It's scary, frustrating, and difficult to live with. I have lived with and I know that when you are going through it, you think that you can't handle this for one more day and you want to stop it immediately. I'm often asked what to use for hair shedding or if there is anything that will help to stop it. I'll answer this question in the following article.
Understanding The Difference Between TE (Telogen Effluvium) and CTE (The Chronic Variety): By definition, telogen effluvium is the condition with which you are losing over 100 hairs per day consistently. This condition is often caused by a shift in your body like pregnancy, starting and stopping medications, or lessening or adjusting hormones. With straight run of the mill TE like with pregnancy, your body will usually adjust in a few months and this nightmare will be a distant memory that hopefully you can leave behind.
But, if the TE doesn't end on it's own in a few months or continues to start and stop over and over, it's possible that you have CTE which is defined as a TE that lasts for over six months. In these cases, there is usually some trigger that isn't able to fix itself. Maybe you're nearing perimenopause or your body just can not adjust to a new medication. Maybe your thyroid is swinging from high to low. Perhaps you have unresolved scalp issues or inflammation that you aren't addressing.
Whatever the reason, the easiest and most non invasive way to stop a CTE is to find the trigger and fix it. Sometimes, this is as easy as finding a new medication or working with a knowledgeable and open minded doctor to fix whatever is misfiring.
What You Can Do To Support A Healthy Scalp And Healthy Regrowth In The Meantime: Fixing or stopping shedding is often a time game or experimenting with different things. Sometimes, this just takes a bit of patience. In the meantime, though, there is a lot that you can do to keep your scalp and your regrowth healthy and optimal. Sometimes, the best thing that you can do when you're going through a massive shed is to focus on the regrowth. Because if you can quickly replace what is shedding with healthy, thick, high quality hair, your net loss is not going to be as bad.
