Tonsil Stones Or Tonsillitis?
Far too many people think they have tonsillitis when they may actually have tonsil stones. Tonsil stones, also known as tonsilloliths, are white bumps found on the tonsils are a result of a buildup of bacteria, mouth debris, and food particles. These disgusting balls attach to the tonsils and can cause horrible bad breath. It may also feel as if you have something stuck inside your throat that you can't get out.
If you have tonsillitis, you probably will experience many symptoms, such as a fever, chills, extremely sore throat, aches and pains, and ear pain. If you have these symptoms, you need to visit your doctor. They will perform a throat culture to see if you have a bacterial tonsil infection. If you do, you will be prescribed antibiotics. However, if you have a viral infection, antibiotics will have no effect.
Tonsil stones, however, can be removed at home. You might be able to dislodge these bumps by coughing, hacking, or squeezing your throat. A syringe filled with warm water may also work. Once you have removed these irritating bumps, follow up with a good oral hygiene program in order to keep the tonsil stones from coming back.
Tonsil stones do not usually cause significant problems; they are more irritating than anything. However, when you use home remedies you can get rid of the tonsil stones, without any type of surgery. However, if they simply will not come lose, you may speak to your doctor about other forms of treatment.
