A tonsillolith, commonly known as a tonsil stone, form from several reasons and it is not usually the person who contains it is unaware of the problem. The usual problem that accompanies it would be the struggle against halitosis or bad breath.
How do they look?
They look like a little lump that has a cream tint. They stay in the tonsils and eventually loosen upon coughing or swallowing. Crushing them give off a putrid smell, this is somewhat similar to rotten eggs. Bad breath is likely inclined with a tonsillolith's presence; however, it does not follow in every case.
Presenting symptoms
Chronic halitosis, sore throat without other presenting symptoms, and a lump at the back of your throat that is difficult to cough up are some of the signs and symptoms that lead to a diagnosis of this problem.
Treatment
There are 2 options you can take to eliminate a tonsillolith. Firstly, if you have less gagging tolerance, then you can consider removing the stone on your own. Next, opt for salt-water placed in a syringe. Squirting this towards the inside of your mouth greatly assists in loosening the stone that is caught in your tonsils.
Overall, the treatment concentrates on dislodging the tonsillolith so that the body can effectively discharge the stone without permitting any harm on the tonsils. However, in worst conditions, it may be a necessity to utilize some devices that would simultaneously get rid of the stones from the tonsil crevices and from the body at the same time.
